Winnie is a fiery Korean MC from New York City and she recently made an appearance on a track, Ready To Die with Ready. We recently sat down with us and told us what makes her tick! - By Ferd Isaacs
Where in Korea are you from?
I was born and raised in New York. I've lived there all my life until I recently decided to move
to Korea to pursue music.
How did you get your rap name?
My name (Winnie) is actually my real birth name! And yes I've been called Winnie the Pooh
all through my life. I think it's quite endearing.
What made you start rapping?
I starter off only focusing on singing. I write a ton of lyrics everyday. I scribble things down
on a paper then realized that some lyrics would sound better as a rap, and boom, the start
of a new Winnie!
How long have you been rapping?
I haven't rapped for too long but I enjoy it a lot. It helps me stay creative in all aspects of my life.
I will continue to do it as long as I love music.
What inspires you to write lyrics and be creative?
I write lyrics about things that bring me deep emotions. I create stories about the people around me.
It's not hard writing lyrics when your soul has too much to say.
Describe your style of rapping.
My voice is generally huskier than a lot of Asian female rappers. When I do rough recordings,
I feel the funny side of me shine through and I tend to fool and around a lot with my style.
What is your date of birth?
January 21st
What is your Facebook/Instagram/twitter?
instagram- winniesongii
Who are your favorite rappers/singers/musicians?
I listen to an unhealthy amount of paramore and Biggie Smalls. I also listen to Jazz and House.
Oh and I have a love for AOMG artists. All super talented.
Who are your favorite producers?
No bias.
What are your plans for the future?
I'll continue to work hard to reach even further than my goals.
Are you working on new music?
All the time, dear.
