RIM HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE LONGEST AND WE HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING SINCE DAY ONE. UNDER THE NAME ATO SHE ALSO MADE AN APPEARANCE AS ONE OF THE FEW FEMALE RAPPERS ON SHOW ME THE MONEY. SINCE SHE HAS BEEN WORKING QUIETLY DOING HER THING AND WORKING ON HER CRAFT. IN THIS CRAZY AGE OF TIK TOK RAPPERS SHE CAN MAKE A CLAIM TO THE THRONE AS ONE OF THE TOP TEN KOREAN FEMALE RAPPERS IN 2025
Where are you from and how did you come up with your name?
I was born in Gwangju and moved to Seoul when I was young. Rim Gayoung is my real name and RIM is my last name of my real name.
You had a name change from Ato to RIM, tell us more about that.
It was simple. I named Ato only for Show Me The Money. After that I've always wanted the stage name to be with my real name.
How long have you been busy doing music?
I've never felt particularly busy. I feel the same way every day because I'm doing the same thing in the studio.
What was your experience like when you were on show me the money?
Show Me the Money taught me good things, and I was able to get to know myself better through that opportunity.
What was the highlights of your career so far?
I've had a lot of experience since Show Me the Money. But I think the
highlight is now when I make and distribute music on my own. And I
believe my life will always be the highlight.
Whats your favorite Korean meal?
Kimchi stew, white rice and rolled egg omelette.
Anybody that you are collaborating with?
Not yet. I always keep that in mind.
Whats your favorite cities that you have traveled to?
Los Angeles. Good memories.
Whats the plans for the future?
I'm going to try to put out all the tracks I made, tracks that I am
making right now and it's not going to be limited to Hip-Hop/Rap.
Nini Blase has been doing this rap game for the longest. Her energy on stage is infectious and gets the crowd hype. She could be in some peoples top 10 Korean female rapper conversations definitely! we recently had a chance to speak with her ....
Tell us who you are and where you are from?
I’m Nini Blase, born YOU AN JIN, from Daejeon, South Korea.
How did you come up with your name and does have it have any meaning?
My
stage name was given to me by my friend Swervy. ‘Nini’ refers to a
party girl, while ‘Blase’ reflects my laid-back personality. Although
these two aspects may seem contradictory, I believe they capture who I
am perfectly.
Describe your style of rapping?
Rather than limiting myself to just being a
rapper, I prefer to describe myself as a singer. I rap, sing, and even
act by altering my vocal tone when necessary. My focus is on creating
verses that fit the beat perfectly.
What inspires you to write new songs?
In the past, I often drew
inspiration from other people. I would project myself onto these figures
and explore the intersection of their world with mine. These days, I
feel like I’m simply telling my own story sharing the thoughts I have
and the events I experience.
What year were you born?
I was born on May 12, 1999.
Do you believe in reincarnation?
I’ve
never given much thought to reincarnation. Rather than focusing on the
afterlife, I try to live in the moment. That’s what drives me to live
intensely every day.
What is your favorite Korean meal?
My favorite Korean dish is my mom’s bean-paste stew. With that, I could easily eat three bowls of rice.
Whats your favorite city or country to travel to?
I
haven’t traveled to many countries yet, but if I had the chance, I’d
love to visit Lagos, Nigeria. It’s a place that requires a formal
invitation for Koreans to visit, so I hope someone will invite me.
Are you working on new music?
Yes,
despite losing many loved ones and wandering for a long time, I never
gave up on music. I’ve created a lot of demos, though I’m still unsure
whether my next release will be a full album or a mini-album. But I can
confidently say that it will represent the essence of who I am.
Where do you see yourself in five years time.
I
hope my life will be quite different from how it is now. I want to
travel the world, meet new audiences, and perform on many stages.
Performing is truly my calling, and I hope to one day inspire and move
people through my shows.
Dion has been doing her thing for some time now, we been following her career since like forever. One of the most exciting Korean female rappers out today. We managed to get some time in with her to ask some important questions ... here follows that interview!
Tell us who you are and where you are from?
Hi, I’m DION! I’m from Seoul, South Korea.Shout out to Kang Dong
How long have you been doing music?
It's
been about 4 to 5 years now. I started making music when I joined a
club in college. I’ve loved hip-hop since middle school, and I always
wanted to rap, but I didn’t have the courage to start. Back then, I
thought I had to "bet everything" on music. The impression I got from
rappers in the States was that they were rapping with everything on the line
to escape the hood. So
even in college, I kept hesitating, but eventually, I felt like I
couldn't put it off any longer! So, I joined the main hip-hop club on
campus and finally started making music.
How did you come up with your rap name? And does it have any special meaning?
I
tend to assign a lot of meanings to things, so I actually chose a name
without any particular meaning on purpose. I did, however, want it to
include a "D" or "ㄷ" sound, so I came up with a name with that sound in
it. And to give it a more lively vibe, I added an exclamation mark!
Describe your style of music
I want to make bright, light trap music. If
you’ve heard my summer release, HEAD 2 TOE, you know what I mean – it’s
trap music driven by a light piano sound, with lyrics that use fun
metaphors. I
want to make music that matches the feeling of stepping outside on a
sunny day, looking up at the clear sky, and walking with a spring in
your step. My album coming early next year is the start of that journey.
Lately, I’ve been into light and rhythmic Louisiana hip-hop style. You know from Mannie Fresh to Fredo Bang.
What inspires you to write new songs?
Everyday
life. The simplicity and solidity of everyday life inspire me; they’re
my everything. Routines fuel my creativity. Getting enough sleep, eating
proper meals, and breaking a sweat through exercise—these basics
provide the energy and stamina I need to create the music I want. And,
of course, other rappers’ music! I get motivated, thinking, “I want to
make something like this too! I need to get to it real quick.” Recently, Megan Thee Stallion, Fredo Bang, and 41
have been my main sources of inspiration. They each bring something
unexpected. For example, MEGAN inspires me through her authentic rapping
and as a female rapper; FREDO BANG for his honesty and emotional depth;
and 41 for breaking the mold. 41, especially, keeps the core rhythm of
drill alive while exploring all kinds of unique sounds. Every time I
hear their new release, I’m eager to see what direction they took this
time. That anticipation feels amazing.
Besides music what else do you have an interest in?
I enjoy books and Infinite Challnge. Recently,
I’ve gotten really into mythology. I read <Circe>, a novel based
on Greek and Roman mythology, and loved it so much that I also read
<The Song of Achilles> by the same author. I’ve even started
buying more mythology-related books. I’m planning to read <The
Odyssey> and <The Iliad> properly! As a kid, I only read the
cartoon versions, so now reading the original texts feels really
exciting. As
for video content, I’m a big fan of “Infinite Challenge(무한도전)”. I watch
it on YouTube whenever I eat; it’s my “meal companion.” Though it’s no
longer airing, Infinite Challenge was an incredibly popular Korean TV
show that ran for about ten years. It had such a huge influence that
people who loved it are called “Infinite Challenge kids.” I was a fan
back in my school days, and I still am. I even reference Infinite
Challenge in my lyrics from time to time!
Whats your favorite Korean meal?
I
love tteokbokki(떡볶이)and kalguksu(칼국수)! Recently, I went on a trip to
Gangneung(강릉) and tried jang kalguksu(장칼국수) which is spicy version—it
was so delicious… I’m craving it again. My soul food is my mom’s rice balls, jumeokbap(주먹밥). No cap.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Since
I plan to release an album every year, my career should be pretty solid
by then. I hope to progress from the hottest rookie to a stable pro in
the industry. I just want to be having even more fun than I am now. Hope
to fully enjoy it!!! I
don’t make very specific long-term plans. Planning is important, but
you never really know what might happen. Will I even still be around
then?
What city or country do you like to travel to?
If
I get the chance, I’d love to go back to London. I went there a few
years ago on my first trip to Europe, and it left a great impression. I
visited a lot of museums back then, but if I return, I’d love to take my
time and just explore the streets. In
Korea, I want to visit Gwangju. I’ve never been there. Gwangju is a
city with a lot of historical sites. I’d really like to go soon. Gwangju
has had some good news recently—like author Han Kang’s Nobel Prize in
Literature whose hometown is Gwangju and Kia winning the Korean Baseball
Series!
Thanks
so much for the interview—it was a pleasure! I hope you enjoy my
upcoming single later this year. Stay healthy and take care!
Vekoelhas been around for a few years now doing her thing, we had contact with her since her time in Germanywhen she just started out. Tell us who you are and where you are from?
I'm VEKOEL from Daegu, South Korea.
How did you come up with your name and does have it have any meaning?
I named my name meaninglessly, like freestyle. I purposely named it meaninglessly because I don't prefer names that are the same as other people's or companies' names, and I don't know now, but I've never seen my name anywhere when I named it. The name itself has no meaning, but the reason I named it like this is because I wanted to be a unique artist.
Describe your style of rapping?
It's melodical, sometimes rich,
sometimes sharp, colorful oriental style.
What inspires you to write new songs?
I listen to a lot of different music. However, hip-hop culture is not a culture that originated in Korea, so I respect and refer to those who started and taught me hip-hop first, and I‘m always trying to find my own. So in the end I just get inspired by myself.
What year were you born?
1997
