Recently we came across an new artist, like we always do on these internet streets. And we managed to get some answers from the questions that we asked. ARTLOVER is her name and The Curator, Ferd Isaacs asked about her debut single, 'Want Back' and her upcoming debut EP.
My name is ARTLOVER and I was born in Seoul. I am a rapper and singer but more importantly the queen of retro.
Where do you currently live?
I am currently based in London.
How did you get your rap name?
It came to me naturally. I love art, so I always called myself ARTLOVER. I consider music to be a form of art. I think ARTLOVER describes me well.
How long have you been rapping?
I’ve been rapping since a few years back, I started singing first and later came the rap as I discovered how much I enjoyed it.
Describe your style of rapping.
My style of rap is contemporary with some retro vibes going back to the 80’s. From my debut single ‘Want U Back’ I wanted to express honesty and felt that rap is a great way of doing that. On upcoming tracks I plan on branching out in more experimental directions.
What inspires you to write raps?
It always begins from a nostalgic standpoint, perhaps it could be a memory of something I experience as a teenager or child. Or it might be a completely new story.
Tell us about your new single, "Want U Back"
“Want U Back” is story about love and loss, a sort of bittersweet feeling of remembering something good but at the same time feeling sad about it being gone. It’s the kind of love that you perhaps only experience once in your life.
When will your debut EP be released?
My EP is currently scheduled to come out in June!
Are you part of a crew, if so what is the name of your crew?
No, I’m not part of a crew.
What year and month were you born?
I was born in 93, in June.
Do you have any siblings?
Yes.
What is your favorite Korean meal?
If I had to bring something into space then it would be Kimchi.
What rappers do you look up to?
I love Eminem!
Have you ever been drunk and woke up not knowing where you are?
No matter how much I drink I never forget anything or pass out! I would say that it’s a typical Korean power!
