We stumbled on Deborah by accident this week. She sent us a link to her mixtape and we immediately got into it.
The tape Inside Out was so good that we just had to ask her a few questions about her and the music.

Who are you and where in South Korea are you from?
My name is Deborah and I’m a rapper starting out. I live in Seoul.
How did you get your rap name?
It’s my English name. I was named after a character in the bible called Deborah, who was the only female judge. My parents wanted me to become a strong and wise messenger of God just like she was.
How long have you been rapping?
It’s been about 2 years.
Describe your style of rapping.
A low pitched and rhythmic style
What inspires you to write raps?
My own experiences inspire me. It’s the key to telling stories that only I can tell and stories that I have fun telling. It also gives uniqueness to my lyrics.
Are you part of a crew, if so what is the name of your crew?
Nope. I’m on my own for now.
What year and month were you born?
I was born on 28th November, 1995.
Do you have any siblings?
I have a younger sister.
What is your favorite Korean meal?
I love Dakgalbi. To be honest though, every dish in Korean cuisine is amazing.
What rappers do you look up to?
I really like Jay Park, Post Malone, Amine, and Loco.
Have you ever been drunk and woke up not knowing where you are?
Nope. I can’t drink at all because my body doesn’t have enough alcohol dehydrogenase.

Are you working on new music?
Yes. I’m working on a new mixtape, and maybe will post some covers on youtube.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I will be on stage working with musicians that I have admired for so long, and facing a crowd that’s enjoying my music.

제 이름은 Deborah입니다. 새내기 래퍼로서 현재 서울에 거주합니다.
- 어떤 계기로 현재와 같은 랩네임을 짓게 되셨나요?
제 영문 이름이 Deborah입니다. 성경에서 나오는 유일한 여성 판사인 Deborah 이름을 본따서 지어진 이름입니다. 저희 부모님께서는 제가 Deborah처럼 하나님의 굳세고 현명한 전달자로 자라나길 원하셨습니다.
- 랩을 어느 정도 동안 해왔나요?
랩 한 지 2년 쯤 됐습니다.
- 본인의 랩 스타일을 묘사해주세요.
저음이며 리드미컬한 스타일입니다.
- 가사를 쓸 때 주로 영감을 어디에서 받나요?
제 개인적인 경험들이 저에게 영감을 줍니다. 제가 아니면 할 수 없는 이야기를 나눌 수 있고, 제가 이야기를 하는 과정에서 스스로 즐거움을 느낄 수 있는 이유이기도 합니다. 또 제 경험을 바탕으로 랩을 쓰다 보니 개성적인 가사를 쓸 수 있게 됐습니다.
- 현재 속해 있는 크루가 있나요? 있다면 크루 이름이 뭔가요?
없어요. 현재는 혼자 음악하고 있습니다.
- 생일이 언제인가요?
1995년 11월 28일에 태어났습니다.
- 형제자매가 있나요?
여동생이 한 명 있습니다.
- 가장 좋아하는 한국 음식이 뭔가요?
닭갈비를 제일 좋아합니다. 개인적으로 한국 요리는 다 엄청 맛있다고 생각해요.
- 가장 존경하는 래퍼가 누구인가요?
Jay Park, Post Malone, Amine, Loco를 정말 좋아합니다.
- 만취 후 깨어나서 어디에 있는지 몰라 어리둥절한 적이 있나요?
아니요. 제 몸에 알코올탈수소효소가 부족해서 술을 전혀 못해요.
